Christopher Barnes

Scientist II at Iris Medicine

Christopher Barnes is a scientist with extensive experience in bioengineering and gene therapy. Currently serving as Scientist I at Iris Medicine since January 2023, Barnes previously worked at Kriya Therapeutics, where responsibilities included the synthesis of plasmid libraries and bioinformatic analysis. At the University of California, Berkeley, as a graduate student from October 2016 to January 2022, Barnes focused on the engineering of Adeno-associated virus (AAV) for gene therapy applications, developing several innovative screening and integration systems. Earlier roles include research assistant positions at the University of Tennessee, Freie Universität Berlin, and OHSU, where work involved investigating receptor interactions and copper sequestration in disease contexts. Barnes holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a double major Bachelor's degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
