Isherwood Geostructural Engineers

Isherwood is a consulting firm specializing in geostructural, geotechnical, and foundation engineering for new and restoration projects in Toronto, Vancouver, and throughout Canada. Formed in 1972 by Brian Isherwood, we provide superior value to our clients, rooted in a heavy focus on constructability and high quality field review. Isherwood has been responsible for excavation support, retaining walls, slope stabilization, underpinning, and foundation design for many prominent Toronto structures including the CN Tower, Skydome Stadium (now Rogers Centre), Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Opera House, Ontario Science Centre, Pearson Airport, Art Gallery of Ontario, Don Valley Parkway, Billy Bishop Pedestrian Tunnel, Eglinton Crosstown LRT, and the Toronto Subway. Our most memorable jobs have been those which posed the most exciting challenges: unusual site conditions or geometries, hard-to-excavate soils, tight spaces, or unknown variables emerging during excavation. Each of these challenges is a new learning experience, helping us improve and continue to develop innovative, cost-effective, and client-oriented solutions. Since 1972, the firm has grown to a staff of over fifty people including twelve professional engineers, six EITs, six project managers, a geologist, five field technicians, eight CAD technicians, as well as business, legal, safety, and support personnel. We specialize in: - Design of all types of foundations, shallow and deep, pile caps, retaining walls - Design of temporary excavation support, including shafts and tunnels - Design, inspection, quality control monitoring for grouting and jet grouting related work - Computer analysis/modeling of geostructural support systems - Specialist monitoring (field instrumentation - Advice on construction costs and field techniques
