Michael Bowen

Michael Bowen has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple industries. Michael began their career at Simon Fraser University as a Community Application Developer & Experience Designer, where they successfully designed and implemented various web projects. Michael then worked at the Canadian Institute for Health Information as a Project Assistant, where they focused on information and knowledge management, research, and data analysis. Michael also gained experience at Vancouver Island Health Authority as an IM/IT Project Analyst, leading business analysis, process improvement, and EHR implementation projects. Michael later joined the eHealth Observatory at the University of Victoria as a Research Analyst, specializing in health information systems evaluation and documentation projects. Prior to their current role, they worked at Physician Data Collaborative & UBC Department of Family Practice as a Clinical Data Analyst, contributing to primary care research and quality improvement using EMR data. Currently, Michael serves as the Director of Advanced Cerner Solution Engineering at Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority, overseeing the development and resourcing of the Cerner Integration Architecture team to provide advanced Cerner solutions and driving strategic discussions with internal and external partners.

Michael Bowen holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Health Information Science, which they obtained from the University of Victoria in 2013. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Health Information Science at the same university from 2005 to 2008. Michael also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Interactive Arts and Technology, which they earned from Simon Fraser University from 2000 to 2004. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications in Cerner Millennium, including Building and Maintaining Charge Services, Building and Maintaining Core, CareNet Order Management, and Fundamentals.
