Sophia Casanova is a Senior Scientist at ispace, inc. since March 2022, where significant roles include Project Scientist for the Tenacious microrover, Landing Site Selection Lead, and Surface Mission Design Lead for the M2 (Hakuto-R Mission 2). Prior to this, Sophia served as Vice President at the National Space Society Of Australia from November 2016 to November 2022 and worked as a Visiting Researcher in the Mars Science Division at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory from April 2018 to July 2019. Earlier experience includes a Development Geologist position at Santos Ltd, with roles in the Central Development Team and Subsurface - Regional and Exploration sectors from February 2013 to May 2016, as well as various positions in geology during academic years at the Australian Space Development Conference, Golder Associates, and Curragh Mine. Sophia holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Geology/Geophysics from the University of Sydney (2008-2012) and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Planetary Science at UNSW, expected to complete in December 2025.
