Matteo Colombo

Matteo Colombo is a Research Fellow at Clingendael and an Associate Research Fellow at the MENA Centre of the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI). They earned a PhD in Political Studies from the University of Milan, with a dissertation focused on Arabic Twitter discourse surrounding the Islamic State, which was later published as a book. With a background in journalism and infographic design, Matteo contributed to the organization of the Mediterranean Dialogue event for several years. Their expertise lies in the politics of the MENA region, particularly in political Islam, sectarianism, data analysis, and social media. Matteo holds multiple advanced degrees, including a master's in International Relations and Middle East Politics, along with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy.
