Roel Peeters

Roel Peeters is an accomplished authentication technology architect and cryptography expert currently working at itsme® since October 2023. Prior to this role, Roel co-founded and served as CTO at nextAuth from May 2016 to October 2023, focusing on two-factor authentication solutions that eliminate the need for usernames and passwords. Roel's academic background includes a postdoctoral researcher position and a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from KU Leuven, where research centered on security architecture for intelligent systems. Roel also co-founded Opacity, where the emphasis was on fostering trust and transparency in digital business environments, and spent time as a visiting PhD student at Aarhus University in Denmark.
