Joao Sousa is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in project management and environmental engineering. Currently serving as a Senior Project/Programme Manager at IUCN since April 2012, Joao focuses on strategic partnerships within the energy and extractives sectors, overseeing projects related to biodiversity, carbon offsets, and the circular economy. Prior to this role, Joao worked at LNEG for nearly two decades, managing projects in energy and environment, with expertise in bioenergy, waste management, and procurement strategies. Joao’s experience also includes serving as a Program Officer at ICP/IPAD, where responsibilities encompassed multilateral cooperation and employee training. Academic credentials include a Postgraduate degree in Engineering Policy and Management of Technology from the University of Lisbon and a Master’s in Biotechnology from Universidade Lusófona.
