Sworn in on May 18, 2007 as the first President of the International University of Grand-Bassam, the honorable Professor Saliou TOURÉ has received countless awards and honors. He is a member of the Academy of Science, Arts, and Cultures of Africa and of the African Diasporas (ASCAD) of Côte d’Ivoire; a former Minister of Higher Education, Research and Technological Innovation under President Henri Konan BEDIE; the President of the Mathematics Association of Côte d’Ivoire; and a member of Mathematics Associations in the USA, France and Japan. On January 28, 2008, he was inducted into the prestigious International Academy of Nonlinear Sciences of the Russian Federation in recognition of his perseverance, hard work, integrity and exemplary qualities as a distinguished Research Professor.
As a Ph.D. graduate in Mathematics Sciences from the Université de Nancy, France, Professor Saliou TOURE has taught in many African, European, and American Universities. Since 1976, he has been a tenured Professor of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Abidjan. He was the Director of the Institute of Mathematical Research in Abidjan (IRMA) from 1975 to 1994, and has been the President of the Mathematical Society of Côte d’Ivoire since 1977. Also, he served as the General Secretary of the African Mathematical Union (AMU) from 1986 to 1991.Currently he is the president of AMU. He also has served as Vice President of the Pan-African Union for Science and Technology for West Africa since 1990. His research area is the Harmonic Analysis on Lie groups and Riemannian symmetric spaces.
