Christian Laurent

Christian Laurent has a diverse work experience in technical writing and research. Christian is currently working as a Principal Technical Writer at iwoca since November 2022. Previously, they worked as a Technical Writer at Darktrace from July 2021 to November 2022, and at Law Answered from September 2020 to April 2021.

Before their technical writing roles, Christian had a significant research background. Christian worked as a Tizard Scholar at the University of Southampton from September 2015 to July 2020, conducting doctoral research in biomaterials. During this time, they published articles, delivered invited lectures, and presented at conferences. Christian also served as a course demonstrator and guest lecturer at the university from September 2016 to September 2019.

Christian also had research experiences at Diamond Light Source as a Visiting Scientist from August 2018 to June 2020, and at Universitatea "Babe-Bolyai" din Cluj-Napoca as a Postdoctoral Researcher from June 2017 to December 2019. Additionally, they worked as a Visiting Researcher at Swiss Light Source from August 2017 to August 2018, and as a Visiting Scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences from March 2018 to July 2018.

During their career, Christian also worked as an Editor at Enago (Crimson Interactive) from April 2018 to September 2019, providing substantive editing support to international authors. Christian also worked as a SCUBA Instructor at Tal Scuba from September 2014 to September 2018, teaching various SCUBA courses.

Christian Laurent completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton between 2015 and 2020. Christian then pursued a PGDL degree in Law at BPP Law School from 2020 to 2021. Before that, they achieved a Master of Research (M.Res) degree in Vertebrate Palaeontology from the University of Southampton in 2013-2014, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from the same university between 2010 and 2013. Christian also obtained an International Baccalaureate from Dartford Grammar School from 2008 to 2010. Additionally, they have several certifications including competence as a crew member from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), a motorcycle (A1) license from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), and various legal research certifications from LexisNexis and Westlaw UK. Christian also holds certifications in applied machine learning, sea survival, first aid/CPR/AED instruction, a full driving license, and IDC Staff Instructor/Specialty Instructor qualifications from PADI.
