Jon Cosson has over 30 years of work experience in the IT field. Jon started their career at Jones Lang LaSalle as a Mainframe Operator Support Analyst and worked there for seven years. Jon then joined Applied Computer Expertise as a Technical Support Analyst for a year. After that, they worked at Matrix Computer Support Ltd. as a Technical Account Manager for two years. Since 1999, Jon has been working at JM Finn as the Head of IT & CISO.

Jon Cosson completed their education at various institutions and obtained several certifications in the field of cyber security. From 2019 to 2024, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cyber Security at Northumbria University. Prior to that, from 2016 to 2018, they acquired a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Cyber Security from the same university.

Looking further back, in the years 1984 to 1986, Jon attended East Ham College of Technology. Although it is not specified whether they obtained a degree at this institution, they pursued studies related to computing and business, completing a B/Tec National Diploma in Computing and Business.

In addition to their formal education, Jon obtained several certifications in the field of cyber security. In 2018, they achieved the C|CISO Certified Chief Information Security Officer certification from the EC-Council. In 2013, they earned the MBCI - Member Business Continuity Institute certification from the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), as well as the CISM - Certified Information Security Manager certification from ISACA. In 2008, Jon acquired the ITIL IT Service Management certification from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Jon also holds multiple certifications from the EC-Council, including the CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker V6/V8, CEFI - Certified Hacking Forensic Investigator, and CISSP - Certified Information Systems Security Engineer. Additionally, Jon obtained certification as a GDPR Practitioner, although the specific institution granting the certification is not provided.
