Vivek Kumar is an Associate Professor at The Jackson Laboratory since January 2015, where the lab focuses on the genetics of addiction using mouse models. Prior to this role, Vivek Kumar served as an Instructor at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas from 2010 to December 2014, investigating motivational reward pathways related to addiction, ADHD, and depression. Earlier experience includes being a Fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (2009-2010) and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern University from February 2004 to March 2009, working in the Department of Neurobiology on the genetics of addiction. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC San Diego (1998-2003) and a BA in Biology from the University of Chicago (1991-1995).
