Jim Boynton

Vice President, Engineering Operations at JBG SMITH

Jim Boynton has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Jim began their career in 1992 as an Administrative Assistant for the Dean of the College at Agnes Scott College. Jim then took on roles as Assistant to the Dean of the College & Coordinator of Cultural Programs and eventually became the Director of Campus Planning & Development.

In 2003, Jim joined Building Consultants, Inc. as an Operations Manager. Jim worked there for a year before moving on to EMCOR Facilities Services in 2005, where they served as a Maximo System Specialist for six months.

In 2006, Jim joined JBG SMITH as a Quality Control Manager. Jim held this position for 12 years before progressing to Director of Engineering Operations in 2018. Their most recent role at JBG SMITH was Vice President, Engineering Operations, which they assumed in January 2021.

Jim Boynton has an extensive education history. Jim completed their Master's of Professional Studies in Sustainable Landscape Design from The George Washington University - College of Professional Studies, where they studied from 2015 to 2019. Prior to that, Jim earned their Master's of Business Administration in Management from Georgia State University - J. Mack Robinson College of Business between 2000 and 2002.

In terms of undergraduate studies, Jim attended the University of South Florida from 1987 to 1989, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on Fine Arts, Visual Arts, and Painting. Before transferring to the University of South Florida, they completed an Associate of Arts degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, and Painting at Broward College from 1985 to 1987.

In addition to their formal education, Jim Boynton has obtained certifications to enhance their professional skills. In April 2018, they completed the Learning Vectorworks certification from Lynda.com. Additionally, in June 2009, they obtained the LEED AP O+M certification from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
