Angharad Hughes

Partner at JMW Solicitors

Angharad has developed great expertise in a wide range of clinical negligence claims and now focuses on cases involving serious injuries to patients, including brain damage and spinal injuries. Settlements she has achieved include compensation totalling £22 million for a child who suffered brain damage after their birth was mismanaged to cover the cost of their lifelong care. She also secured £1.75 million for a man left with permanent disabilities due to negligent treatment of cauda equina syndrome.

Angharad also has specialist experience in kernicterus cases, and obtained £8.8 million for a young boy with this form of severe brain damage due to mistakes made in the treatment of newborn jaundice.

The 2021 edition of legal industry guide the Legal 500 ranks Angharad as a Leading Individual and describes her as an ‘impressive litigator who is conscientious, efficient, and sympathetic.’

Angharad is also ranked in the 2021 edition of Chambers and Partners, and is praised for ‘seeing the strengths and weaknesses of cases very well.’ Chambers also comments that she is ‘well equipped to deal with cases involving brain injuries during birth and amputation claims due to diagnostic errors’.

Angharad qualified as a solicitor into the JMWmedical negligence department in 2008 before progressing to the position of partner in 2015. In 2013 she was appointed to the Law Society's Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme in recognition of her extensive experience.
