Test Equipment Design Engineer at Joby Aviation

John Serra has worked at two companies in their career. John began working at Gatorloop in May 2019 as a Mechanical System Engineer, where they assisted in designing and manufacturing mechanical systems for a hyperloop pod. John also played a role in creating the full vertical suspension subsystem for the Spring 2020 Pod. John wrote professional documentation for all created parts to be reviewed by SpaceX. In July 2020, they became a Peer Mentor at Gatorloop, where they assisted newcomers with orientation and involvement by hosting meetings and activities and facilitating the completion of the new member orientation project. In December 2020, they transitioned into the role of Stability Team Lead Engineer, where they created projects to enhance engineering knowledge for student members and organized and delegated work to sub team members. John hosted weekly digital meetings with sub team members using Notion. John left Gatorloop in May 2021. In February 2022, they joined Joby Aviation as a Test Equipment Design Engineer.

John Serra obtained their Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida, where they studied from 2017 to 2021. In 2018, they also attended the UM-SJTU Joint Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University for a short period of time, focusing on engineering. Prior to their university studies, John attended Lake Worth High School from 2014 to 2017. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications including SOLIDWORKS: Simulation for Finite Element Analysis and SOLIDWORKS: SimulationXpress from LinkedIn in 2020, SolidWorks Mechanical Design Associate from Dassault Systèmes in 2018, AutoDesk Revit for Architecture from Autodesk in 2017, Web Communication with Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 from Adobe in 2015, and Microsoft Office Specialist certifications in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word from Microsoft in 2014.
