Matthew Jaynes has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Matthew is currently working as an Equipment Design Engineer at Joby Aviation since February 2022. Prior to this, they were a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Joby Aviation from June 2021 to January 2022.

Before Joby Aviation, they worked at Uber as a Capstone Senior Design Project Manager from September 2020 to May 2021.

Matthew also gained experience at Duke University Pratt School of Engineering, where they served as an Undergraduate Student Researcher from August 2020 to May 2021. Matthew also held multiple roles such as the Director Of Industry Relations in the Engineering Student Government from January 2020 to January 2021, and as a Lab TA for Engineering Design & Communication from August 2018 to December 2020.

In their time at TEDxDuke, Matthew held leadership positions including President from March 2020 to April 2021 and participated in the Speaker Selection Committee from August 2018 to April 2021. Matthew also served on the Event Committee from August 2017 to March 2020.

Matthew had a brief stint as a Junior Network Engineer at IPC Systems, Inc. from June 2020 to August 2020.

Matthew gained valuable experience as a Materials Engineering Intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from May 2019 to August 2019 and as a Geographic Information Systems Intern at SUEZ in North America from May 2018 to August 2018.

Additionally, Matthew worked as a Student Engineer at Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association from August 2017 to May 2018, and as a Customer Service and Sales Representative at Broken Arrow Nursery from November 2013 to December 2017.

Matthew Jaynes completed their Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) with Departmental Distinction in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University in 2021. During their time at Duke University, they also obtained a certificate in Aerospace Engineering. In 2019, they attended UNSW for a brief period, focusing on Mechanical Engineering. Prior to their university education, Matthew graduated from Clarkstown North Senior High School in 2017. In 2016, they participated in the Talent Identification Program (TIP) at Duke University, studying Applied Mathematics. Additionally, in 2015, they attended the Engineering Innovation Program (EI) at The Johns Hopkins University, specializing in Engineering. Matthew has also obtained certifications in GD&T Fundamentals from GD&T Basics - Engineer Essentials LLC in 2021 and Machine Shop from Duke University Pratt School of Engineering in 2017.
