Flight Control Algorithms Systems Engineer at Joby Aviation

Paul Vankeppel has diverse work experience in various engineering and research roles. Paul worked at Joby Aviation as a Flight Test Engineer from 2019 to the present. Prior to that, they were a Researcher at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where they were involved in the design and prototyping of a solar-powered aircraft. Paul also worked as a Wind Tunnel Lab Assistant, supporting graduate students' projects and managing wind tunnel test environments. Additionally, they served as the Treasurer of the Aerospace Department Student Fee Allocation Committee and was a member of the Electric Airplane Conceptual Design Team. Paul also gained experience as a Propulsion Engineering Intern at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, where they created a simulation model for a turbojet engine. Furthermore, they worked as a Senior Sailing Instructor at Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club and as a Sales Associate at West Marine.

Paul Vankeppel earned a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where they studied from 2014 to 2018. Prior to that, they completed their high school education at Newport High School from 2011 to 2014. Additionally, Paul has obtained several certifications, including Six Sigma Principles from the University System of Georgia on Coursera in June 2019, a Remote Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration in April 2019, an Open Water Diver certification from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors in November 2018, and a US SAIL Certified Sail Instructor certification from US Sailing in February 2013.
