Rick Pasetto has a diverse and extensive work experience in the software engineering field. Rick currently holds the position of Staff Software Engineer at Joby Aviation since 2022. Before that, from 2020 to 2022, they worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Tidepool, where they contributed as a Senior iOS Engineer on Tidepool Loop, an FDA-approved closed-loop insulin dosing system for individuals with type-1 diabetes.
From 2017 to 2020, Rick served as the VP Engineering at Cape, leading mobile and cloud engineering teams while also involved in hands-on development. Rick was responsible for delivering Cape's software stack and navigating the challenges of building a shipping product in a new market with regulatory headwinds. Additionally, during this time, they briefly worked as a Staff Software Engineer.
Earlier in their career, Rick worked for Tableau Software as a Senior Software Engineer from 2015 to 2016. During this time, they contributed to the development of Vizable, a next-generation mobile product that enables data exploration on iOS touch devices. Rick also led the scrum process as a Scrum Master.
Prior to Tableau, Rick worked at Lyve as a Senior Software Engineer from 2013 to 2015. Rick served as the technical lead in designing and delivering a cross-platform C++ library implementing the Lyve "agent."
In 2012, Rick taught as a Scientific Programming Instructor for the NASA Student Airborne Research Program (SARP) during a sabbatical experience. Rick developed and taught a programming curriculum for undergraduate students, focusing on MATLAB.
From 2010 to 2011, Rick worked as a Software Architect (Contract) at TiVo, where they led a small agile team in designing the company's next-generation UI toolkit architecture. Rick also introduced a new Scrum process for rapid development.
Before TiVo, Rick worked as a Senior Software Engineer (Contract) for Linden Lab from 2009 to 2010. Here, they worked on the viewer team, specifically applying 2D multimedia onto objects in the 3D world shared experience.
From 2006 to 2009, Rick served as a Software Architect at TiVo, overseeing the development of a new UI toolkit for the company's future products, including the new Comcast product. Rick played a crucial role in building a completely new Java-based platform.
Rick began their career as a Software Architect at ManyOne Networks from 2005 to 2006, leading the development of a content authoring system for Emma, a platform for creating and delivering real-time 3D rich media over the internet.
Rick Pasetto obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, where they studied from 1987 to 1991. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Computer Graphics at Cornell University from 1991 to 1993.
