Mark Banfield

Project Leader at John Innes Centre

Mark Banfield has a diverse work experience in the field of research and academia. Mark began their career in 1997 at the University of Bristol as a Postdoc researcher. Following this, they worked as a Travelling Fellow and Postdoc researcher at The University of Auckland in 1999. In 2000, they returned to the University of Bristol as a Postdoc researcher and later became a Research Fellow. From 2003 to 2008, they served as a Research Fellow and Lecturer at Newcastle University. In 2008, they joined the John Innes Centre as a Project Leader, where they focused on studying the molecular basis of plant pathogens and defense mechanisms. Mark then became an Honorary Reader at the University of East Anglia from 2013 to 2015, and currently holds the position of Honorary Professor at the same institution.

Mark Banfield obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from The University of Sheffield, where they studied from 1991 to 1994. Subsequently, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry and Structural Biology at the University of Bristol, completing their studies from 1994 to 1997.
