Katy Reid has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Katy started their career at Standard Life as a Systems Analyst & Project Analyst in 1998 and worked there until 2003. Katy then joined Tesco Personal Finance as a Senior Business Analyst/Project Manager from 2003 to 2005. Following that, they worked at Synergi Global Solutions as a Project Manager from 2005 to 2008. Katy then joined Menzies Distribution and served as a PMO Manager from 2008 to 2017. Currently, they are working at John Menzies plc, where they started as the Group Compliance Manager in 2017 and later advanced to the role of Head of Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility in August 2021.

Katy Reid's education history begins with their attendance at Balwearie High School from 1990 to 1996. During this time, they did not pursue any specific degree or field of study. Following high school, they enrolled at Queen Margaret University from 1996 to 1997 to study Podiatric Medicine/Podiatry.

In addition to their formal education, Katy has obtained several certifications. In 2002, they completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management from The Open University. In 2012, they achieved the MoP (Management of Portfolios) Practitioner certification from OGC / APM Group. In 2016, they earned both the MSP Practitioner (Managing Successful Programmes) certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice and the Certified ScrumMaster certification from the Scrum Alliance. In 2017, they received the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Foundation) certification from IBITGQ. In 2020, they obtained the ICA Advanced Certificate in Business Compliance from the International Compliance Association. In 2022, they completed the Target Gender Equality Accelerator program from the United Nations Global Compact and obtained the Environmental Sustainability Skills for Managers certification from IEMA. Katy also obtained the Practioner Applicant certification from IEMA in the same year.
