James Maxwell

James Maxwell has spent more than 20 years researching health insurance, financing, and health reform. Recently, he completed a study for the Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis on employer health insurance, and with the support of multiple foundations, has been studying safety-net payment reform and ACO development in numerous states, including Massachusetts, New York, Maine, Minnesota, Illinois, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and California. Jim is leading a project for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality on strategies for improving care transitions among primary care practices, and recently completed another study for the agency on reducing Medicaid readmissions. His research has been published in health and policy journals including Health Affairs, New England Journal of Medicine, Health Care Management Review and Annals of Family Medicine. Jim received a PhD in public policy from MIT, where he also received postdoctoral training in health economics and management.
