Benjamin Schafer

Benjamin Schafer serves as the Willard and Lillian Hackerman Professor of Civil and Systems Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, where responsibilities include chairing the department from 2009 to 2015 and founding the Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute, promoting sustainable energy technologies. Additionally, Benjamin holds the position of Consulting Principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. since April 2019 and previously served as Vice President at NBM Technologies, Inc. from 2013 to 2018. Benjamin's career in structural engineering includes experience as a Senior Engineer at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger from 1998 to 2000. Benjamin earned a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Cornell University and a BSE in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa.
