Kerry A. Ates

Kerry (Rutemiller) Ates is an accomplished professional serving as Vice President and Chief of Staff at Johns Hopkins University since January 2014. Previously, Ates held prominent roles in the U.S. Senate from April 1997 to December 2013, including Chief of Staff and General Counsel. Ates also acted as Campaign Director for Friends of Jay Rockefeller from January 2003 to December 2013 and practiced as an Attorney at Winston & Strawn LLP from September 1993 to March 1997. Ates earned a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from the University of California, Los Angeles - School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from the University of Maryland.
