Gayla Cowie

Gayla Cowie is a seasoned HR professional with extensive experience in leading human resources and communications functions across various industries. Currently serving as Global Director of HR & Communications for Clean Air at Johnson Matthey since April 2021, Gayla previously held the role of Global HR Director for Battery Materials & Hydrogen Technologies. Prior to Johnson Matthey, Gayla spent nearly two decades at Nissan Motor Corporation, culminating in the position of Vice President of HR for the Asia & Oceania Region, overseeing a large HR team and partnering with a diverse employee base across numerous markets. Gayla has also held multiple leadership roles focused on talent management, organizational development, and strategic HR planning within Nissan and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Human Resources from the University of Strathclyde and a Master of Arts (Honours) in English Literature from the University of Glasgow.
