Mitchell Thompson

Mitchell Thompson is a Research Scientist at Berkeley Lab, focusing on the application of synthetic biology techniques to enhance Agrobacterium tumefaciens for genetic transformation of eukaryotic organisms. Thompson serves as Deputy Director of Plant Biosystems Design at the Joint BioEnergy Institute since January 2017, after holding roles as a Postdoctoral Scholar and Graduate Student Research Assistant. Previous experience includes a Postdoctoral Scholar position at the University of California, Davis, and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California, Berkeley, where fundamental metabolic discoveries in Pseudomonas putida were made under Dr. Jay Keasling's guidance. Early career experience includes research technician work at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and research assistantship at Cornell University.
