Russell Anderson

Dr. Russell Anderson has spent over 30 years developing machine learning solutions for Retail, eCommerce, and Financial Services, with specific expertise in credit and fraud risk management.

Dr. Anderson was the Chief Scientist for IBM’s Data Science Studio, where he developed the data science solutions and applications of 17 IBM/Watson products. The team conducted over 60 POC and First of a Kind projects for banking, wealth management, insurance, retail, and manufacturers. Solutions included AML, financial crime, fraud, customer experience, retail demand, process optimization, forecasting, recommendation engines, logistics, and audience insights.

At Opera Solutions (Europe), he led Analytics for the EMEA and ASEAN regions with customers such as Hess Oil, VISA, Volkswagen, MasterCard, Westpac Australia, Synovus Bank, and ACI Worldwide to develop and roll out fraud, risk, and transaction analytics solutions.

At Chase Card Services, he headed the Transaction Analytics function (within Decision Technologies), re-designing of their transaction analysis system, and developing analytics services for partners such as United Airlines, Marriot and Disney.

Early in his career, he was Director of Modeling at HNC Software (now FICO), where he worked on the development of the first, billion-dollar commercial neural network application, Falcon.

Dr. Anderson has provided management and advisory services to numerous global players in the financial services industry, including KPMG (Chief Scientist, Decision Science), Arrow Global (Collections), NICE/Actimize (Fraud SME), Tesco Bank (Fraud SME), and MasterCard/Lloyds (Risk & Fraud).

Dr. Anderson has a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California. He conducted postdoctoral research at Los Alamos and Livermore National Labs, U.C. Irvine, the California Department of Health, and the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute. He has published over 30 scientific publications and holds 5 US patents for commercial predictive analytics solutions.
