Huahai Yang has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Huahai is currently serving as the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Juji, Inc., a leading artificial intelligence platform focused on understanding people. At Juji, they have successfully developed a chat bot creation platform that enables businesses to deploy chat bots quickly.
Prior to their role at Juji, Huahai worked as a Research Staff Member at IBM Almaden Research Center from 2008 to 2014. In this position, they were responsible for building predictive analytics systems that leveraged social media data to infer personal traits. Huahai also played a key role in developing methods to infer people's needs from textual data and built novel visual analytic systems for textual information. Additionally, Huahai built the front-end system for Midas, a system that enables visual exploration of information extracted from SEC filings.
Before joining IBM, Huahai worked as a Lecturer at the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2012 and as an Assistant Professor at the University at Albany, SUNY from 2003 to 2008. Their early research experience includes working as a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, where they were a member of the Collaboratory for Research in Electronic Work (CREW). In this role, they conducted research on spatial collaboration in 3D virtual environments.
Huahai's work experience also includes serving as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1994 to 1997.
Huahai Yang completed their education in a sequential manner. First, they attended East China Normal University from 1990 to 1994 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Computer Science. Later, from 1994 to 1997, they pursued their Master's degree in Psychology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Finally, from 1997 to 2003, Huahai Yang attended the University of Michigan, where they earned a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction.
