Harley Newton has an extensive work experience in software and informatics. In 2021, they began working as the Director of Software and Informatics at Juneau Biosciences, where they developed and maintained a Python based laboratory management system "LIMS" used for sample tracking, processing, reporting and interfacing with instruments and third party vendors. From 2019 to 2021, they worked as a Senior Process Engineer at Sunquest Information Systems, where they implemented laboratory information management systems "LIMS" for various molecular laboratory workflows and developed custom reports, workflows using JavaScript, Python, SQL and XML. Harley also worked as the Director of Software Development at Predictive Laboratories, Inc. in 2019. From 2016 to 2019, they worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Sunquest Information Systems, where they successfully refactored the legacy Java code base to use newer technologies. From 2016 to 2019, they worked as a Software Engineer at UNIConnect. From 2011 to 2016, they worked as a Software Developer at Affiliated Genetics Inc., where they developed web and database applications and internal programs using a mixture of PHP, Python, Perl, JavaScript, shell scripting, SQL, Amazon Web Services “AWS” and others tools to automate and/or assist in the input and output of processing genomic data. From 2010 to 2011, they worked as a Premedia Developer at Thindata 1:1, where they developed variable data print and marketing materials for print, web and email. From 2009 to 2010, they worked as a Software Developer at Taueret Laboratories. From 2004 to 2009, they worked as a VDP Developer and Network Engineer at Rastar. Lastly, from 1998 to 2004, they worked as a Prepress Technician at Precision Litho, where they setup, imposed, proof, and corrected offset print jobs within a Creo Brisque direct to plate workflow.
Harley Newton is largely self-taught, having acquired knowledge and skills from mentors along the way. From 2000 to 2002, they attended Salt Lake Community College, where they studied Computer Science and Multimedia. Harley also graduated from Northridge High in 1998 with a High School degree.
