Gabriel Risk has worked in the engineering field since 2000. In 2003, they began working as a Senior Electrical Engineer at Sun Microsystems / Oracle, where they developed technology for high-end enterprise server platforms and invented a new simulation technique for SERDES signal integrity analysis. In 2006, they founded and served as CTO of D.light Design, a company that shipped 10M units of low-cost, high-efficiency lighting for use in developing countries. In 2010, they became the Director of Hardware Engineering at Atieva Inc., where they managed the design and testing effort of a Battery Management System and performed FMEA and ISO26262 reliability and safety analysis. In 2012, they were the Director of Hardware Engineering at Aclima Inc., where they designed an integrated hardware and software platform combining leading edge technologies. In 2013, they were the Shine Owner / Hardware Lead at Misfit Wearables. Since 2014, they have been a Hardware Engineer at June, a team on a mission to transform the kitchen.

Gabriel Risk has a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, which they completed from 2000-2002. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley from 1996-2000.
