Heather Carruthers

Heather Carruthers has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Heather currently serves as the Director of Business Development for the Southeast Region at K2M Design, a national architecture and engineering firm. In this role, they are responsible for business development, client satisfaction, and project delivery for the Florida Keys region. Heather also serves on the company's Leadership Team and provides advisory support for marketing efforts.

Before joining K2M Design, Heather worked as a Realtor at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Knight & Gardner Realty. With their extensive background in marketing and knowledge of property insurance issues unique to the Florida Keys, they provided exceptional service to clients looking for residential and commercial properties.

Prior to their real estate career, Heather served 12 years as a Commissioner for Monroe County, commonly known as the Florida Keys. Heather held various leadership positions during their tenure, including three terms as County Mayor. Heather was actively involved in numerous committees and initiatives focused on areas such as early learning, regional planning, climate change, and affordable housing.

Heather also has experience as a business owner, having been the Owner and CEO of Pearl's Key West, a boutique guesthouse in Key West. Heather was responsible for marketing, capital improvements, and overall operations.

Early in their career, Heather worked as an Account Supervisor at Ogilvy & Mather, where they managed the IBM Global Services account. Heather developed global marketing plans and strategies, with a focus on database and relationship marketing.

Additionally, Heather has held roles as a professional singer, a direct marketing consultant, and the Director of Marketing for The Trumpet Club, a school book club division of Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing, Inc. Heather also worked as the New Member Marketing Manager for Better Homes & Gardens Book Clubs at Meredith.

Heather's diverse background in business development, real estate, public service, marketing, and entrepreneurship makes their a well-rounded professional with a wealth of experience and expertise.

Heather Carruthers has a B.A. in American History, which they obtained from Wells College, where they studied from 1977 to 1981. In 2011, they received a Certificate in Leadership from the Good Government Initiative at the University of Miami. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications, including a Real Estate Broker/Sales Agent certification from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation in 2016 and a Certified County Commissioner certification from the Florida Association of Counties in 2010. Most recently, in 2021 and 2022, they completed several courses and obtained certificates related to project management, scope creep management, and communication and design professionals.
