Bernard Chan

Machine Learning Scientist at Kabam

Bernard Chan has diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Bernard began their career at Queen's University, where they served as a Project Manager from 2004 to 2006. In this role, they successfully managed and guided student teams through their first-year projects, while also teaching communication and group work skills.

Following their time at Queen's University, Bernard worked at Western University as a Mathematics Lecturer for a brief period in early 2012.

Bernard then moved on to San Diego State University, where they worked as a Researcher and Lecturer from 2012 to 2015. In this role, Bernard focused on improving the performance of engineering systems by developing mathematical models and conducting numerical analyses using tools like Maple and MATLAB. Their research and experiments contributed to advancing the development of these engineering systems.

In 2016, Bernard joined BuildDirect Technologies as a Data Scientist. Their responsibilities included generating data ETL pipelines from raw inputs, developing machine-learning models for freight rate and click stream data, and using model predictions in real-time for online customers. Bernard held this role until 2018.

Since 2018, Bernard has been working at Kabam. Initially, they served as a Data Scientist, utilizing their expertise to analyze data and provide insights. In 2021, they transitioned to the role of Machine Learning Scientist, where they focus on leveraging machine learning techniques to drive innovation and improve products or services.

Overall, Bernard Chan's work experience demonstrates their strong analytical skills, research capabilities, and expertise in data science and machine learning.

Bernard Chan began their education journey at Queen's University in 2001, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mathematics and Engineering with a Mechanical Option. Bernard completed this degree in 2005.

Following their undergraduate studies, Bernard Chan attended Western University from 2007 to 2012, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Applied Mathematics.

In 2006, Bernard Chan also pursued further education at Queen's University and obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Mathematics.

Aside from their formal education, Bernard Chan has obtained various certifications. Bernard completed the "Neural Networks and Deep Learning" course in September 2017 and followed it up with the "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization" and "Structuring Machine Learning Projects" courses in October 2017, all of which were offered by Coursera. In December 2017, they obtained certification in the "Convolutional Neural Networks" course. In October 2019, they completed the "Deep Learning Specialization" course, as well as the "Sequence Models" course. Most recently, in September 2020, Bernard Chan concluded the "Reinforcement Learning Specialization" course, all of which were offered by Coursera.
