Sean Smailes has a diverse work history in the field of character art. Sean started their career in 1998 as a senior artist at Bioware and worked there for eight years. After that, they worked as a senior artist at Deep Fried Entertainment, where they were responsible for character art, concept art, and training new artists. Following this, they had a brief stint at Big Sandwich Games as a senior artist.
In 2010, Sean joined United Front Games as a character artist, initially on a contract basis for the game True Crime Hong Kong. Sean then transitioned to a full-time position, working on the game's main character and assisting with secondary characters. Sean was involved in creating lowpoly models, hipoly sculpts, normal and AO map creation, and texture creation.
In 2012, Sean joined Capcom Game Studio Vancouver as a character artist, working on the game Deadrising3. During their time there, they created clothing assets for the main character, developed complete characters (including bosses), and designed a new playable character named Angel. Sean closely collaborated with their lead and the art director.
In 2015, Sean worked at gumi Canada, Inc. on an unannounced new IP project. However, the studio was shut down due to poor financial performance. Sean's role as a character artist involved creating low poly characters with hand-painted textures.
From 2016 to 2018, Sean was a character artist at Blackbird Interactive Inc, contributing to various projects. Currently, they are working at Kabam as a character artist from May 2018 onwards.
Sean Smailes completed their education from 1993 to 1998. Sean obtained a diploma in visual design and illustration from the Albert College of Art and Design. Additionally, they earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in VC from the Alberta University of the Arts between 1994 and 1998. There is no specified field of study for the diploma obtained from the Albert College of Art and Design.
