Erin Wetherley

Director of Research & Development at Kairos Aerospace

Erin Wetherley, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience background. Erin is currently employed as the Director of Research and Development at Kairos Aerospace, a position they have held since January 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Head of Research and Development at Kairos Aerospace from June 2021 to January 2023. From April 2020 to May 2021, Erin worked as a Senior Spectroscopic Data Scientist at the same company.

Before their time at Kairos Aerospace, Erin worked at Accenture as an Artificial Intelligence R&D Specialist in Accenture Technology Labs from April 2019 to March 2020. Prior to this role, they held the position of Advanced App Engineering Specialist (Artificial Intelligence) from September 2018 to April 2019.

From September 2012 to December 2018, Erin worked at the UCSB Department of Geography. During their time there, they served as a Doctoral Researcher, conducting research and analysis using hyperspectral & LiDAR imagery, GIS, ancillary datasets, and statistical methods to model the energy and water balance of greater Los Angeles. Erin also developed and validated geospatial products for NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and international science collaborations. Additionally, Erin wrote several journal articles and publications and successfully applied for multiple fellowships during their time at UCSB. Erin also worked as a Teaching Assistant from September 2012 to December 2015.

Erin's work experience also includes a role as a Science Radio Broadcaster at KCSB-FM in Santa Barbara from June 2017 to April 2018. Erin also held the position of GIS Manager at the Civil War Trust from October 2008 to August 2012.

Erin Wetherley, Ph.D. completed their Bachelor's Degree with Honors (Magna cum Laude) in Environmental Studies & U.S. History at Brown University from 2004 to 2008. Erin then pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Geography at UC Santa Barbara from 2012 to 2018.
