Von Washington Jr.

Von Washington Jr. is the Vice Chairperson at Kalamazoo Community Foundation. Von was previously the Principal at Kalamazoo Central High School. Von has also worked at The Kalamazoo Promise.

Washington Jr. has dedicated their career to education. Von has experience as a principal, overseeing 180 staff members and 1800 students. Von has also been responsible for ensuring that students meet national, state, and local academic standards.

In their previous position as the Principal at Kalamazoo Central High School, they were responsible for the safety, well-being, culture, climate, and academic achievement for over 1800 students in an urban district. Von developed solid, cohesive, educational teams by setting high expectations and encouraging a team approach. Von also established committees to address school issues and goals.

Washington Jr. has a passion for promoting creativity and career development. Von has encouraged ideas and opinions to be shared among staff members, and has implemented new policies to improve student achievement. Von has also worked to ensure adequate staffing for the school year, and has supervised discipline and attendance challenges, social and recreational programs, and health and safety matters.

Von Washington Jr. has a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Western Michigan University. Von also has a Bachelor's degree in Communications/Theater from Western State University. Von Washington Jr.'s high school diploma is from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School.
