Shaun Tyrance

VP, Player Services & Assessment at Kansas City Chiefs

Shaun Tyrance originally joined the Chiefs in 2019 as the franchise's first in-house clinician and enters his fourth season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022. He was promoted to Vice President of Player Services and Assessment in May 2022.

In the newly developed role as Vice President of Player Services and Assessment, Tyrance focuses on all aspects of behavioral health, wellness and performance psychology for all club employees, including players, coaches and staff. Tyrance also provides special programming for the team's rookies and players on injured reserve, as well as spearheads the organization's diversity education initiative, Kingdom United.

Prior to joining the Chiefs, Tyrance had opened a successful private practice in Charlotte, N.C., in 2010, where he provided mental health counseling, leadership development and mental skills training to college and professional athletes. In addition to working with athletes and coaches, Tyrance has consulted with Fortune 500 companies to help them hire and develop top talent within their organizations.

Tyrance also spent a decade working in collegiate and professional athletics, serving as the Director of Sport Psychology for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2007-10), the Director of Sport Psychology for Chip Ganassi Racing, a multi-car NASCAR team (2006-07), and as the Academic Coordinator for Football at North Carolina State University (2003-06).

In addition to being a licensed clinical mental health counselor, Tyrance is certified in multiple psychometric tools, including the 16PF, Hogan Personality Assessments (HPI, HDS & MVPI) and Birkman First Look (career assessment). He has been published in periodicals and is the co-author of Winning at the College Level: Thriving as a First-Year Student-Athlete and The Career Game Plan: Preparing Student-Athletes to Compete and Win in the World of Work.

He was a four-year letter-winner and co-captain for the Davidson College football program, graduating with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
