Sonja Salo

Sonja Salo has a diverse work experience, starting in 2013 with a role as a Radiation Monitoring Assistant at Fortum. In 2014, they were a Trainee in Risk Assessment at Fortum, where they reviewed and developed probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) for the nuclear power plant in Loviisa. In 2015, Sonja worked as an Assistant at Aalto University School of Science and Technology and as a Supervisor in Energy Economics at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Finland. From 2016 to 2019, they worked at Fourdeg, first as an Energy Systems Architect and later as Chief Operating Officer. In 2019, Sonja was a Visiting Student Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley while they completed their Ph.D. from Aalto University as a Fulbright scholar. Most recently, in 2020, they became Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Kapacity.io.

Sonja Salo attended Deutsche Schule Helsinki from 2002 to 2011 and graduated as a high-school graduate. Sonja then went on to attend Aalto University from 2011 to 2016, earning a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Energy Technology. In 2015, they also attended Hamburg University of Technology and earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Renewable Energy Systems. Finally, Sonja Salo returned to Aalto University from 2017 to 2021 and earned a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD.
