Annika Östman Wernerson

Annika Östman Wernerson has extensive experience in academic and clinical settings, currently serving as the President of Karolinska Institutet and a Full Professor in Renal and Transplantation Science since 2011. In addition, Wernerson holds roles as Academic Vice President for Higher Education and Dean of Higher Education at the same institution. Prior to these positions, Wernerson was a Senior Consultant in Clinical Pathology at Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset from 1991 to March 2023, where leadership roles included Head of Diagnostic Electron Microscopy and Director of Studies. Wernerson also contributed as a Guest Professor in Medical Education at Örebro Universitet from 2018 to 2021 and held the position of Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet from 2003 to 2005. Wernerson's educational background includes a Medical Degree and a Dr Med Sc (PhD) from Karolinska Institutet.
