Dr. Pasha is a retired civil servant and a leading economist holding a PhD degree from Stanford University. He has held many public appointments notably: Advisor to the Prime Minister/Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Deputy Chairman/Federal Minister, Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan, Federal Minister for Education and Federal Minister for Commerce and Tourism. He has also served as chairperson of the Advisory Panel for Economists, Planning Commission, Economy Advisory Council to Federal Ministry of Finance, Revenue Advisory Council, Federal Board of Revenue and was also Founder Chairman of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund. His international public appointments include Assistant Administrator, UNDP Regional Director of Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, UNDP, New York, USA (2002-2007) Visiting Scholar, New York University (2004-2007) Visiting Assistant Professor, Stanford University.
He has served as the Dean of the School of Social Sciences at the Beaconhouse National University, Lahore and is currently the Professor Emeritus. Dr. Pasha has served till 2007 as a United Nations Assistant Secretary General and United Nations Development Program Assistant Administrator and as director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific. He is the first Pakistani to hold this distinction.
Earlier, Dr. Pasha was also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Dean and director of the Institute of Business Administration, and research professor and director of the Applied Economics Research Centre.
