Russell Howard is a Principal Engineer specializing in robotics with extensive experience in the aerospace industry. Currently at Katalyst Space Technologies since April 2025, Russell develops advanced robotics for spacecraft. Previously, at Atomos Space, Russell led the development of an innovative space robotic system for satellite capture and manipulation. As a Senior Design Criteria Engineer at SpaceX, Russell focused on aerodynamic control designs for the Starship. Russell was pivotal to the Dream Chaser project at Sierra Nevada Corporation, securing over $2 billion in NASA funding. Additional roles included designing classified spacecraft mechanisms at Northrop Grumman and various engineering positions at Pioneer Rocketplane, the University of Maryland, and NASA. Russell holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Systems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and degrees in Aeronautics, Astronomy, and Mathematics from Caltech and the University of California, Berkeley.
