Purpose of the Position:

Working with the Safety Team on all safety, loss control and risk management initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and carry out programs, policies, training sessions, and safety procedures, as outlined in the KCI Safety Manual, to help reduce risks and prevent losses across all company operations.

  • Create customized safety plans for each project based on KCI policies and any specific requirements from the client. Support the Superintendent and site teams in putting these plans into action.

  • Take a lead role in handling incidents involving accidents, injuries, or regulatory issues, working to minimize risks by investigating thoroughly and reporting accurately. Manage claims directly to ensure efficient processing.

  • Encourage and support safe work practices by regularly attending safety meetings, visiting job sites for safety audits, and offering guidance and follow-up as needed.

  • Keep records of safety training for all employees, ensuring everyone has completed 10-Hour OSHA Certification within the last three years. Confirm that Foreman level and above have completed their 30-Hour OSHA Certification within the same period.

  • Inspect project sites daily to identify any potential hazards, recommending corrective actions or preventive measures as needed.

  • Conduct monthly safety audits at each job site, documenting results and communicating any necessary actions to Management and the project team.

  • Lead periodic safety meetings on-site to support Superintendents.

  • Collaborate with project teams to identify potential hazards, ensure safe equipment use, and maintain overall site safety protocols.

  • Review daily Job Safety Analysis with Superintendents during site visits, offering feedback for improvement in safety and planning.

  • Support compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA, and other regulatory requirements for all company operations.

  • Create required safety training for workplace safety as specified by OSHA, DOT, and MSHA standards.

  • Analyze safety trends and report on them quarterly to Management, noting frequency, severity, and outcomes of past incidents.

  • Assess project risks before bidding.

  • Complete and submit accident reports as required by insurers and regulatory agencies.

  • Develop and oversee work plans, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and site-specific safety plans.

  • Work with Operations Managers and Superintendents to monitor the "Light Duty" program, ensuring injured employees are adhering to any work restrictions.

  • Support the new employee orientation process by discussing essential safety topics.

  • Develop and deliver safety training sessions for both field and supervisor staff.

  • Keep and organize safety records, including all OSHA-required documentation and postings.

  • Assist with corporate insurance administration, collaborating with the insurance carrier to reduce lost employee time and minimize unjust claims.

  • Review pre-qualification documents for subcontractors.

  • Oversee workers’ compensation claims to ensure they are managed properly and work with the carrier to close claims as efficiently as possible.

  • Report all accidents and near-misses to the insurance company and work to achieve no-lost-time status for each incident.

  • Collaborate with KCI management to maintain or improve the Experience Modification Rate (EMR).

  • Help create and implement vehicle use policies with Management.

  • Obtain annual motor vehicle records for all employees who drive company vehicles and inform Management of any issues.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (Preferred).

  • 3+ years of experience in a Safety role required.

  • 3+ years of construction experience required.

  • OSHA 510 & 500 Qualified (Preferred)

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

  • Ability to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of employees.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; Excel, Word, Outlook.

  • High degree of professionalism and strong work ethic.

  • Proficiency in OSHA and DOT regulations required.

  • Thorough knowledge and background in the construction industry.

  • Ability to carry out the duties described in this job description in an efficient manner.
