Keck Medicine of USC
Brandon Kao is currently serving as an Ophthalmology Resident Physician at LAC+USC Keck Medicine of USC since June 2024. Previously, Brandon founded Avisi Technologies, a medical device startup focused on developing a novel nano-implant for open-angle glaucoma patients, and held a position on the Board of Directors at the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering from January 2016 to May 2018. As a researcher under Dr. Russell Composto, Brandon investigated microtubule detyrosination and its effects on rat heart muscle mechanics, while also serving as a Teaching Assistant for the Thermodynamics of Macro & Nanoscale Materials course. In earlier roles, Brandon gained experience as a Research Intern at Keck Medicine of USC, analyzing circulating tumor cells, and at California State University, Fullerton, where research involved density functional theory simulations of atmospheric acid-base systems. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and a Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
