Bob Chitwood

SVP & COO at Key Energy Services

Bob Chitwood was appointed Sr. Vice President and Chief Operations Officer in December 2022. Prior to his current role, Mr. Chitwood held the title of Sr. Vice President of the Western Region. Mr. Chitwood has over 48 years of experience, and began his career in Casper, Wyoming where he worked for Updike Brothers, Inc as a relief hand working his way to Operations Manager. Key Energy Services acquired Updike Brothers, Inc in 1997.

Mr. Chitwood has held numerous management positions, including Rocky Mountain Operations Manager, Rocky Mountain Division Manager, Vice President of US Operations for Rigs and Coiled Tubing, Regional Vice President of the Permian Basin, and Sr. Vice President of the Western Region, which includes Key’s California, Bakken, and Permian Basin operations. Mr. Chitwood has extensive knowledge and experience in creating processes and improving operations pertaining to well control, wellbore and downhole design, and safety processes.

Mr. Chitwood has been accredited by the International Association of Drilling Contractors Rig Pass Safety Program and has received training from the Center of Creative Leadership. Additionally, Mr. Chitwood has been instrumental in developing the AESC/EWTC cased hole well control process that is currently being reviewed by the API. Furthermore, due to his efforts over his distinguished career to continuously improve operations and the safety of the Well Servicing industry, he was awarded the Golden Rod Wrench Lifetime Achievement award from the AESC in 2019.
