Katherine Almendarez

Founder at Key to Knowledge

Katherine Almendarez is the founder & President of Key to Knowledge Organization. She is working towards a degree in Latin American & Caribbean Studies at Florida International University. Upon arriving to the United States at 15-years-old, she identified the disparity in educational opportunities between her native country, Honduras, and the U.S.. Therefore, she aims to help students in Honduras and across all Latin American countries receive a quality education despite economic obstacles. By improving the education system in other countries, Katherine hopes that children do not have to flee their country like she did, to dream big. Because Katherine is a first-generation student, she hopes to encourage high school students to receive a college education by working as a substitute teacher in Miami Dade County Public Schools. Sonia Sotomayor´s quote “Until we get equality in education, we won't have an equal society’ resonates with her vision in leading Key to Knowledge successfully”.
