Elisa Gahng

Regional Director, Legal Services at Kids in Need of Defense

Elisa Gahng has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Their most recent position was as the Regional Director, Legal Services at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), starting in August 2022. Prior to that, they served as the Managing Attorney at KIND from August 2018 to August 2022. Before joining KIND, Elisa was the Assistant General Counsel at the NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs from October 2014 to July 2017. Elisa also worked as a Staff Attorney at the MinKwon Center for Community Action from September 2011 to October 2014. Earlier in their career, Elisa held various roles in the legal field, including a Legal Fellow at the International Organization of Migration in 2010, a Law Clerk at the US Department of Justice Headquarters Immigration Court in 2009, and a Legal Intern at the Women's Refugee Commission from September 2009 to January 2010. Elisa also gained experience in advocacy and communications as the Communications Director at the Women of Color Resource Center from January 2006 to July 2008 and as the Development Director at the Korean Youth Cultural Center from August 2005 to July 2008. Elisa's work experience reflects their dedication to immigrant rights and their commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

Elisa Gahng attended Georgetown University Law Center from 2008 to 2011, where they obtained a Doctor of Law (JD) degree. In 2010, they also briefly studied at the Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London, UK. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley from 2001 to 2005.
