Brenda Adams is a former military dependent student and a Killeen High School graduate. She served 40 years in public school education as a substitute teacher, teacher, mentor, district evaluator, assistant principal, principal, district hearing officer, and college instructor.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Mary Hardin-Baylor University, and her Master’s degree in Education Administration from Tarleton State University.
In 1992, she became the first African American student in KISD who returned to the same junior high school she attended, to serve as principal of Nolan Middle School. In 2002, she was selected to open a new school as principal of Live Oak Ridge Middle School, and she also served as the district Director of Student Hearings before retiring in 2018. Mrs. Adams previously taught at Central Texas College in the music department, and presently, she serves as Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M University Central Texas, working with aspiring teachers. She contributed years of dedicated service educating diverse students of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Mrs. Adams is a founding member of the Greater Vision Community Church in Killeen and served various local churches as the minister of music for more than 20 years. She has had affiliations and memberships in many local, state, and national organizations. She has seized many opportunities to serve her community, including having served as a Communities In Schools board member, provided support to the Killeen Food Care Center, supported Girl Scouts of Central Texas, served as a former leader Commandress of Nubia Court 9190, and is a member and past president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
