Fiorella Ruggiu

Principal Scientist Computational Chemistry at Kimia Therapeutics

Fiorella Ruggiu has extensive experience in the field of cheminformatics and computational chemistry. Fiorella is currently working as a Principal Scientist in Computational Chemistry at Kimia Therapeutics since June 2023. Prior to this, they worked at insitro as a Scientist II in Cheminformatics and Computational Chemistry from February 2021 to June 2023, and as a Scientist I in the same field from February 2020 to February 2021. Fiorella also worked at DiCE Molecules as a Chemoinformatics Scientist from December 2018 to October 2019.

Their earlier experience includes working as a Postdoctoral Scholar in Computer-Aided Drug Discovery at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) from August 2015 to November 2018. During their postdoc, they focused on studying exposed polarity and permeability in molecules.

Fiorella also worked as a Ph.D. student at the Laboratory of Chemoinformatics at Université de Strasbourg from September 2010 to September 2014. Their research work involved molecular descriptors and teaching tutorials in chemistry and computational chemistry. Fiorella supervised interns at the laboratory and also carried out a Master's internship at the Laboratory of Cheminformatics from March 2010 to August 2010.

Fiorella also had a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), where they collaborated with the Department of Systems Bioscience for Drug Discovery at Kyoto University. Their research focused on chemogenomics modeling of GPCRs using SVM and ISIDA descriptors, as well as visualization of chemical space.

Fiorella began their professional journey with a summer internship at the Institute for Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Helmholtz Zentrum München, in July 2009.

Fiorella Ruggiu completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry from the University of Strasbourg, which they pursued from 2010 to 2014. Before that, they acquired a Master's Degree in Chemistry with a specialization in chemoinformatics from Université de Strasbourg, studying from 2008 to 2010. Fiorella also holds an edX Verified Certificate for Medicinal Chemistry, obtained at an unspecified time.
