James Hoffman has a diverse work experience spanning various engineering roles. James is currently the Vice President of Engineering at Kinemetrics, Inc. since November 2021. Prior to that, they worked at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 2006 to 2021, holding positions such as Principal Engineer and Principal Research Engineer. During their time at NASA, they served as the Principal Investigator for advanced packaging for high power electronics and real-time digital calibration for radar systems. James was also the JPL lead for the Mars landing radar used in the InSight mission. Before joining NASA, James worked as a Science, Technology, and Weapons Analyst for the US Government from 2005 to 2006. James'searlier experience includes working as a Microwave Engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 2001 to 2005, where they specialized in RF engineering for spaceborne radar systems and low-frequency tower radar design and development.
James Hoffman obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University at Buffalo, where they studied from 1990 to 1996. Following their undergraduate education, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Microwave Remote Sensing of Planetary Atmospheres at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1996 to 2001.
