Prior to joining Kinemetrics, Mathias was Research Scientist in the Engineering Department of INTEVEP, the former R&D center of the Venezuelan petroleum industry. He was responsible for the seismic and strong-motion networks, co-developed the seismic hazard map of Venezuela, and was consultant to the advisory board of the Earthquake Zonation for Structural Design of Buildings of the National Committee of Standards in Venezuela. Mathias joined Kinemetrics in 1996 to start the seismic network design group, formalized in 2007 as the Open Systems & Services Division, Mathias being the Manager of the Division. In 2014 Mathias was member of the Model and the Standards Committees for the implementation plan of the California Earthquake Early Warning System. Mathias became Vice President Kinemetrics in 2015. Mathias has a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Hamburg, Germany.
