Girmay Zahilay

Council Member at King County

Girmay Zahilay is currently a Council Member at King County. Prior to that, they were an attorney at Perkins Coie LLP, where they counseled start-up companies and small businesses on a range of matters, including formation, venture capital financing, commercial agreements and general corporate matters. Girmay also advised clients in a wide range of industries on their mergers and acquisitions transactions.

Before joining Perkins Coie, Mr. Zahilay was the founder and a board member of Rising Leaders, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit that empowers low-income and underserved middle school students by expanding their professional networks, providing them high-quality mentorship, and equipping them with leadership development training.

Mr. Zahilay began their legal career as an attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Affiliates, where they advised clients on mergers and acquisitions transactions.

Girmay Zahilay received their Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where they also received a Certificate in Management from the Wharton Business School. Girmay holds a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University, and a High School Diploma from Franklin High School. Girmay is certified by the New York State Unified Court System as a Licensed Attorney in New York State (Inactive), and by the Washington State Bar Association as a Licensed Attorney in Washington State (Inactive).

They are on a team with Dan Satterberg - Prosecutor, Jeffrey Flohr - Chief of Technical Services Division, and Shawn Ledford - Chief Of Patrol Operations Division. Girmay Zahilay reports to Dow Constantine, Executive.
