David Barenborg has over 35 years of experience in global financial markets with a specific expertise in alternative investment strategies and asset management.

He is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Erigo Capital Partners, a capital formation boutique that sources and curates highly selective investment opportunities, connecting alternative asset managers with institutional investors.

David joined Deutsche Bank in 1997 to become Managing Director and Head of Credit Sales for the Americas. In 1998, David moved to London with Deutsche Bank as a Co-Head of European Fixed Income Sales with the responsibility for the institutional distribution of fixed income securities and derivatives, with an emphasis on credit. David started his financial career as a fixed income specialist in the sales and trading divisions of Salomon Brothers and Lehman Brothers in New York before joining Deutsche Bank.

Erigo Capital is a new firm led by David and two other founding partners, each of whom has more than 25 years of experience in the financial markets, expertise in alternative investments, and connections to a broad network of global capital market professionals.

For General Partners, Erigo Capital will offer market intelligence, consulting on marketing strategy and tactics, identification and vetting of prospective investors, and support in preparing offerings and managing requests. He help GP’s institutionalize their business model, rendering advice on investment and operational best practices, fund terms and size, and product development.

For investors, Erigo Capital serves as an extension of their internal team by increasing the breadth and depth of the LP’s investment sourcing and diligence.

Before launching Erigo, David was a Principal and Director of Investment Research at Quellos Capital Mgmt where he played a significant role in growing the business into a global leader prior to being acquired by BlackRock Inc in 2007.

David stayed on at BlackRock until 2019 as Managing Director with BlackRock Alternative Advisors (BAA) where he was Head of the Absolute Return Strategies Manager Research Group and a managing partner. David meaningfully contributed to the investment performance and asset growth of the firm. During the last 10 yr period, BAA generated top decile performance and firm AUM grew from $5 billion to $25 billion during his tenure from 2002-2019.

As Director of Research, David developed and managed the investment sourcing and due diligence processes across the full spectrum of hedge fund strategies on a global basis. He also helped to recruit, manage, and mentor a 30-person research team across all the critical functions including investment and operational due diligence.

David also led BAA’s Co-Investment strategies which had over $2 billion in long-term commitments with direct investments made alongside core hedge fund and private equity GP’s. The investments ranged across the capital structure and a variety of different asset classes, including liquid event trades to direct lending and private equity risk profiles.

David holds a BA cum laude in Economics with a concentration in Russian studies from Middlebury College and completed the Advanced Finance Program at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
