Weronika Borek, PhD, has a diverse range of work experience in the field of bioinformatics and research. Weronika is currently employed as a Bioinformatics Technical Lead at Kinomica, a role they have held since June 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Bioinformatician at the same company from June 2021 to June 2022.
Before joining Kinomica, Weronika worked at The University of Edinburgh for a significant period. Weronika started as a PhD student in October 2009 and completed their doctoral project in the Sawin Lab at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology. Weronika'sresearch focused on the regulation of microtubule formation using the fission yeast S. pombe as a model organism.
After completing their PhD, Weronika continued their research at The University of Edinburgh as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant from July 2014 to June 2015, and later as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist from July 2015 to May 2021. In their postdoctoral roles, they conducted research on investigating the kinetochore-microtubule attachment regulation in meiosis I. Weronika utilized various techniques such as bioinformatics, pipeline design and development, immunoprecipitation and immunoassays, mass spectrometry, genetics, RNA-seq, and microscopy imaging.
Additionally, they gained laboratory experience as a postgraduate student at Adam Mickiewicz University from October 2006 to June 2009, where they worked in the Laboratory of Nucleotide and Nucleoside Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. L. Celewicz. During this time, they completed a research project for their MSc degree.
Weronika also had the opportunity to expand their research experience through an Erasmus Scholarship at the Università degli Studi di Genova in Italy. For six months from February 2007 to July 2007, they worked in the laboratory of Prof. S. Thea.
Overall, Weronika Borek has demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics, molecular biology techniques, research project management, and mentoring junior staff. Weronika'swork experience spans both academic and industry settings, enabling their to contribute to the field of bioinformatics and research.
Weronika Borek, PhD, completed their education in a chronological manner. Weronika began with their General Studies at VI LO Ogolnoksztalcace w Poznaniu from 1998 to 2002, where they obtained their Polish Maturity exam. Weronika then pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemical Synthesis and Analysis at Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu from 2004 to 2006. Following this, they furthered their education with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biotechnology from the same institution, completing it in 2008.
